Gun Control – Destroying Lives of Many People

Three months ago, my friend was shot with 8 bullets just because she refused to give her phone to the gunman. Thanks to lifesaving doctors she is alive, but she has now been put to bed rest for 2 years period. Just like this story of my friend, many lives of people have been destroyed due to lack of gun control which is why there must be strict amendment to rules and regulations regarding gun control. To prevent horrible things from happening and destroying people’s lives strict rules and regulations should be applied by the government on gun control. It is the most debated issue in America right now.

Firstly, we look at the statistical research from John Hopkins Bloomberg which states that when owning a gun, there is 43 times higher likelihood of killing a family member, a friend, or neighbor than an intruder. It isn’t rocket science to understand the fact that Weapons makes it simple to kill or harm an individual, or even numerous individuals, in a short time. Earlier I mentioned the story of my friend who got shot is probably just one in thousands of innocent people who get shot every other day. There is really a very thin border between self-defense and deadly force. People often use self-defense as a very annoying reason for possessing guns. But according to another interesting stats by John Hopkins Bloomberg the prevalence of suicide is 5 times higher in homes having guns. So, in order to reduce the risk of gun violence strict laws must be made against easy access to dangerous weapons. Youth and individuals who are at risk of harming themselves or others must not be accessible to such deadly equipment’s. Additionally, gun industries must be accountable and ensure there is adequate oversight over the marketing and sales of guns and ammunition. There must be proper training and licensing provision for the gun holders.

Another aspect we investigate how cheap these deadly machines are. For some of us it might be surprising discovery that guns in United States are as cheap as a Chromebook laptop. Among the arsenal of weapons recovered from the hotel room of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock were handguns, which can cost from as little 200 dollar which is the nearly the same price of a Chromebook laptop (BBC). Stephen Paddock was American mass murderer who killed more than fifty people in Las Vegas who also had assault-style rifles in his room which cost around fifteen hundred dollars, equivalent to cost of a MacBook. So, if you have money you can easily buy a gun. Although prices may or may not be augmented but mandatory training and licensing for the owners can be applied. The gun industry must guarantee there is enough oversight over the advertising and sales of firearms.

Therefore, to prevent horrible things from happening and destroying people’s lives strict rules and regulations should be applied by the government on gun control. Perhaps, readers must also be aware of the consequences and should actively take necessary steps in order prevent such incidents from happening as it could happen to anyone anywhere. No one possibly would want to lose their lives or their loved ones. With proper gun control people may again live their with peace.
