Fight for Black Lives Matter

The star of The Hate U Give has been sharing mental health resources with her fans during the fight for Black Lives Matter. Like many people, Amandla Stenberg has been deeply engaged in the fight against racism happening across the globe. Black Lives Matter protesters have been marching for the end of racial injustice since George Floyd was killed by policemen in Minneapolis, MN. In her Instagram, Stenberg highlighted bail funds, promoted petitions, and shared resources with her followers. She also demanded justice for Breonna Taylor, a Black woman killed in her own home by law enforcement in Louisville, KY. “This movement must protect and honor the black femmes and trans women existing at intersections of oppression,” she wrote in one of her Instagram captions.Stenberg also took the time to check-in with her followers regarding their mental health. On June 15, she expressed her solidarity with the mental health struggles many people were going through. Hoping to help, Stenberg shared information about The Loveland Foundation, an organization committed to providing financial aid for Black women to access therapy. She also encouraged her followers to donate to the group, saying that she was going to do that as well.

I keep having to remind myself to take a deep breath to help release the knot in my gut. Therapy helps a lot.” We believe that fighting for the end of racial injustice is important, but we also know that it is crucial for everyone to pay attention to their mental health. Take a breath, check-in with yourself, and make sure to care for your mind as well.
