Animal abuse is a crime because it a violent act toward a living thing. They are so many ways to abuse and animal. How would you feel if you were treated this way? This why we need stop abusing the animals in this world.
Why are people so cruel to animals? According to the Paws website, sometimes it is simply that people do not understand that what they are doing to an animal is causing them pain. Additionally, people who have been abused themselves will be cruel to animals because they think that it is the only way to treat others. Lastly, the worst cruelty situations are when people hurt animals knowing that it hurts the animal, and they do it to cause the animal pain. “It is difficult to say why someone would do this, but often they see the animals as objects instead of creatures with feelings” (Paws). Someone that has already been a victim of violence has a greater likelihood to be violent. Additionally, people with psychopathic personality disorders tend to torture pets and other small animals. This behavior is termed as zoo sadism. These are some reason why people abuse animals.
They are many physical sings of the animal abuse that can show that it is being treated in a cruel way. One example from the ASPCA website is that a tight collar could have caused a neck wound, or the collar has become embedded in the neck. Another way that ASPCA website show that the animal has many wounds.. “Untreated skin conditions that have caused loss of hair, scaly skin, bumps or rashes “(ASPCA). Additionally, the animal is skinny to the point where you can see their bones. “Patches of bumpy, scaly skin rashes “(ASPCA). “Weakness, limping or the inability to stand or walk normally (ASPCA).” Lastly the animal show signs of confusion or extreme drowsiness. These are the physical signs of animal abuse.
Animal cruelty can also be seen by the environmental signs that the animal live in. One example from ASPCA, pets are tied up alone outside for a long period of time without adequate food or water, or with food or water that is unsanitary. “Pets are kept outside in inclement weather without access to adequate shelter (ASPCA).” They are kept in an area littered with objects that could harm them like glass. Lastly, animals are housed in kennels or cages that are too small to allow them to stand, turn around and make normal movements. These are the environmental signs of animal abuse.
What is Horse Slaughter? horse slaughter refers exclusively to the killing and processing of horses for human consumption. Horse slaughter is not humane euthanasia. While “euthanasia” is defined as a gentle, painless death provided in order to prevent suffering, slaughter is a brutal and terrifying end for horses. “Horses bound for slaughter are commonly shipped for more than 24 hours at a time in crowded trucks without food, water or rest (ASPCA).” Lastly, the methods used to kill horses rarely result in quick, painless deaths.
How are farm animals being abuse for welfare? “In polling, 94% of Americans agree that animals raised for food deserve to live free from abuse and cruelty (ASPCA).” Additionally, yet the majority of the nearly ten billion farm animals raised each year in the U.S. suffer in conditions that consumers would not accept if they could see them. Lastly, most of our meat, milk and eggs come from industrial farms where efficiency trumps welfare.
How are dogs abuse every day? There are two main ways on how dog are abuse and those two things are dog fighting, and puppy mill.
Dogfighting is a type of blood sport in which dogs are forced to fight one another for the entertainment and/or profit of spectators. Dogfighting is one of the most heinous forms of animal cruelty. Fighting dogs are typically raised in isolation, so they spend most of their lives on short, heavy chains. “Fighting dogs may have their ears cropped and tails docked close to their bodies to minimize the animal’s normal body language cues and to limit areas that another dog can grab during a fight” (ASPCA). Dogfighting is a felony in all 50 states, but it continues to occur in the whole world. Fights can last just a few minutes or several hours, and both animals will likely suffer injuries. Although fights are not usually to the death, but they die from the injuries. There are thousands of dogfighters in the U.S., forcing thousands of dogs to train, fight, and suffer every year.
The second way on how dogs are abuse is puppy mill. Puppy mills are large-scale commercial dog breeding operations where profit is placed above the well-being of animals. “Bred without consideration of genetic quality, this produces generations of dogs with unchecked hereditary defects (ASPCA). Female dogs are bred at every opportunity with little to no recovery time between litters. The parents of the puppy in the pet store window are unlikely to make it out of the mill alive. Lastly, the dog will have many health problems.
Everyone should report animal abuse If they see it happening or hear someone talking about doing it because it always better to tell someone instead of being silent. You could be saving an animal life if you do this but if you say nothing it could die because you were silent about it. If you think someone you know is abusing animals, please speak up. ‘The best thing you can do is report your suspicions of cruelty to your local law enforcement agency. “While an aggressive, timid or fearful animal may appear to be a cruelty victim, it is not possible to know if an animal is being abused based on their behavior alone” (ASPCA). It is best to examine the animal surrounding environment to determine if it needs help. A concise, written, factual statement of what you observed giving dates and approximate times whenever possible to provide to law enforcement. If you can, provide law enforcement with all the information that you have. “The case is more likely to be pursued when there are credible witnesses willing to stand behind the report and, if necessary, testify in court” (ASPCA).“If you do not receive a response from the officer assigned to your case within a reasonable length of time, make a polite follow-up call to inquire about the progress of the investigation (ASPCA).” This is how people can report animal abuse
People need to understand the laws and consequences of animal abuse if they ever commit this crime. Violence against animals must be taken seriously under the law. There are some ways in which the law is reflecting this seriousness. “For example, all 50 states now have felony animal cruelty laws on the books (the humane society).” “Nearly two thirds of states allow pets to be included in domestic violence protective orders” (the humane society).
These are just a few of the advances we’ve seen at the state level in this area. At the federal level, there is progress, too. As of 2016 the FBI began tracking crimes against animals in the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), in the same way it tracks other serious criminal offenses.” “This tracking will help paint a better picture of who is committing crimes against animals, and where these crimes are taking place and it will thus also help indicate where humans are also at risk. But we are not yet at the point where cruelty to animals is consistently reported, investigated, prosecuted, or punished in ways that match the seriousness of the crime. These are laws on animal abuse that people need to understand.
How can people help stop/prevent animals abuse in this world? “They are five easy ways to stop animal abuse, report animal abuse if you see it, understand the link between animal cruelty and domestic abuse, teach children to respect animals, volunteer to help animals and Support legislation that promotes kindness to animals” (American Humane). In conclusion animal abuse is a serious problem in this world.
