Theaters of Struggle During The World War 2

This was had two sides at first that were known as theaters that were being fought, the European theater and the pacific theater. The cause of World War II was when Hitler’s re militarized Germany invaded Poland and since Poland this also led for France and Britain to declare war on Germany hence the European theater began. Germany had allies which were known as the Axis powers that were Italy and japan. Germany swept through countries by using fast movements using tanks and aircraft and it was a quick victory this was known as blitzkrieg. With this they got to French border lines and overwhelmed the French and the British and they had to retreat to Britain but could not do it easily. The British had to evacuate their soldiers back but there weren’t enough ships for them, most troops had to wait for a evacuation and with German’s advancing on them with tanks and planes they didn’t have any real fighting chance. The only real choice was to regroup back at Britain, and the ones left behind had to suffer the reign of the Luftwaffe attacks. The British army had to use their own boats and civilian boats to save around 338,000 soldiers. Soon France fell under German occupation and Hitler wanted more. Thus, began operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union. Germans advance tech let them get close to Moscow, but due to harsh winters and soviets, reaching Moscow was held back.

The Pacific theater involved the US and Japan the united states were not trying to get involved in the war, but the bombing of pearl harbor changed their minds and the US declared war on japan and then Germany and Italy declared war on the US. At first japan kept winning until the battle of midway when Japanese retreated losing so much in that battle. Then the US approach to defeating Japan was Island hopping where the US had to take an island at a time till they get to japan. But the US was also fighting another front in the European theater, but it started in Africa and soon led up to invasion of Sicily and Italy.

Germany had to fight two side’s against Soviet Union in the east and in the west the French, Britain, and the US. May 8th, 1945 Germany surrenders and in August two devastating bombs were dropped in Nagasaki and Hiroshima and Japan surrender on September 2nd, thus concluding the war. Germany was divided in 4 parts and the Soviet Union extended their control in the east. WWII affects today by the making of the United Nations, and without Germans making the enigma machine the Brits would’ve never made the first “computer” and many much daily items came out of this war for example Duct tape.
