Causes and Effects of School Bullying

Bullying is now a widespread problem in schools because it implicates consequences for children who bully and for victims. This issue can’t be solved without the help if parents and teachers addressing the reasons why children humiliate others. If teachers and parents would help the children learn to work through their problems instead of bullying, then the rate of bullying could be decreased. In order to provide help to the student they must figure out the causes and effects that bullies pose on.

Bullying is an aggressive behavior that children implicate to seem balanced. Children use their physical strength to get information, popularity, control over others, and even to harm others (Ma). Bullying consists of actions such as taunting, teasing, threatening to cause harm, name-calling, and embarrassing in public.

Children who bully usually come from dysfunctional families who are rejecting and hostile towards them. Growing up in that type if family is just one thing that could cause a child to be a bully. Some children may have grown up around aggressive parents or siblings and therefore the child adopts the aggressive behavior and uses them with their peers. Most bullies seem confident, but they are insecure about themselves. They treat their peers with contempt to make themselves less insecure. Some bullies are not intentional, they are just mimicking their parent’s behavior. These inadvertent amends strengthen bullying behavior and encourage them to keep bullying others. Children who bully cannot control their emotions. Whenever most people become angry and irritated, they can manage their emotions to prevent themselves from bullying. However, children cannot control their feelings. In fact, anything can cause them to overreact.

The effects of school bullying extensive. From a mental point of view, bullying has a potential to severely impact a child’s self-esteem even years after bullying has stopped. The victims are inclined to suffer from anxiety and depression, mainly if the harassment has occurred over the prolonged duration of action. Bullying can lead to low self-esteem and loneliness, and they many stay with them even in their adult years. It should be recognized that these mental impacts do not stop at the victims, they also extended to the bullies. Those involved in bullying of others experience a wide range of mental health, academic and social problems.

Another effect of school bullying is on academics. After facing a bully, a child may begin to refuse to go to school. So, their grades may also suffer, both because of absence in a school and inability to concentrate. Some may even end up dropping out. Some schools don’t help children who have been bullied. Also, school bullying has effects on relationships between victims and their parents and friends, this may make children isolate themselves. They may also seek revenge on the person who bullied them to blow of stress and anxiety. Bullying also has some physical effects on children. Aside from the usual bumps and scrapes, there can be excessive marks, such as scratches, bruises, and scars that can mean a child is being bullied. Appetite and sleep loss are common consequences, as a result of the prolonged fear and anxiety that bullying cause.

Bullying is an aggressive behavior among children that involves threatening, humiliation, teasing, and embarrassing in public and that has the potential to be repeated, over time. Usually, bullying comes from dysfunctional families. Both children, insulter and its victim may have a broad range of severe physical and mental health, social and academic problems that may persist into adulthood.
