The Leadership Qualities of Beowulf

Hero’s is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.Beowulf was Epic poem about beowulf fighting three monsters and defeating two of them.The epic poem Beowulf describes the most heroic man of the Anglo-Saxon times. Beowulf is the hero He shows that he is a great man by always doing brave things,he is a leader and courageous. He shows all of the qualities and traits that a true hero possesses.

Throughout the poem “beowulf” beowulf shows that he is a great man who brave risky things for his people and himself. In the poem “beowulf” Beowulf went through many battles and he was very brave not only in battles but just as a independent person. In the poem,he “would rather not use a weapon if I knew another way to grapple with the dragon and make good my boastas I did against Grendel in days gone by.But I shall be meeting molten venomin the fire he breathes, so I go forthin mail-shirt and a shield.’ (2518-2524) which shows how careful beowulf is while fighting the dragon.The dragon poisonous venom and the ability to breathe fire. Beowulf does not have enough weapons or even as much strength to battle the drang but he does and he uses his own strength and prowess.Beowulf is brave enough to use his strength while battling. “I have heard moreover that the monster scorns his reckless way to use weapons therefore, to heighten Hygelac’s fame and gladden his heart, I hereby renounce sword and the shelter of the broad shield, the heavy war-board: hand-to-hand is how it will be, a life-and-death fight with the fiend.’ (433-440). In the battle with grendel he wanted hand to hand combat.which does not only show how he’s brave but he gains glory for himself. although Beowulf was very brave during battles and fights he always had it in him to be a hero and be brave with simply tasks. “Beowulf, Ecgtheow son, replied: ‘Well, friend Unferth, you have had your say about Breca and me. But it was mostly beer that was doing the talking. The truth is this: when the going was heavy in those high waves, I was the strongest swimmer of all.’ (529-534) throughout the poem its important for Beowulf to show strength and bravery in the quote it shows how beowulf he gets into “swimming contests”with other warriors.

Beowulf was hero by always being courageous. In the quote’Often, for undaunted courage, fate spares the man it has not already marked.’ (572-573) it explains how beowulf claims that if your fate hasn’t been decided yet, you can succeed through sheer nerve and courageous behavior. “Yet the prince of the rings was too proud to line up with a large army against the sky-plague. He had scant regard for the dragon as a threat, no dread at all of its courage or strength, for he had kept going often in the past, through perils and ordeals of every sort, after he had purged Hrothgar’s hall, triumphed in Heorot and beaten Grendel.” (2345-2353) In this quote beowulf was unafraid of the dragon and shows how to courageous he is because if it was a any other king he would bring a army behind him to fight the dragon but beowulf wanted to do it one on one.a hero must always have a courageous reputation which beowulf shows in the quote “Inspired again by the thought of glory, the war-king threw his whole strength behind a sword-stroke and connected with the skull. (2677-2680) beowulf is able to maintain behave his courageously and keep his reputation well.

Leader is the action of leading a group of people or an organization. Beowulf shows he’s a hero by being an amazing leader. in the epic poem beowulf it stated “Hygelac’s kinsman kept thinking about his name and fame: he never lost heart.”(1529-1530) this shows how beowulf kept his reputation and that’s why he was known as a leader because he wasn’t selfish.By sides having a beowulf having a good reputation he showed a good leadership he defended his people by fighting the dragon alone and and he was an effective king he cares for his people.

The character beowulf in the poem “Beowulf” demonstrate three of the most important morals at the time of the story’s creation bravery, leader, and courageous. The character of Beowulf clearly exemplifies these traits.
