Feminism and The Feminist Movement

The feminist movement had taken off to the point where even more women and men were ready to take part and help make every woman’s voice heard. Women and men all over the world have heard the plea of many feminist, to stand up for the rights of every women in the world. The terms “Feminism” and “Feminist” did not gain widespread use until the 1970s, they were already being used in the public parlance much earlier. Feminism could be used to describe a cultural, economic or political movement that had been aimed at establishing the equal rights and the legal protection of women. Feminism is the idea that women should have had social, intellectual, political, economic and sexual rights that would be equal to those of every man.

Feminism involves political and sociological theories and philosophies concerned with issues of gender equality for women and campaigns for women rights and interests. It involves various movements, philosophies and theories, all concerned with issues of gender difference, that advocate equality for women and all the campaign for women rights and interests. Feminism has altered predominant perspectives in a wide range of areas within Western society, ranging from culture to law. Feminist activities have campaigned for woman’s legal rights, which include but were not limited to, rights to contract, property rights, and voting rights. It fought for woman’s rights to bodily integrity and autonomy, for abortion rights and for reproductive rights with the access to contraception and quality prenatal care. Also, for protection of women and girls from domestic violence, sexual harassment and rape. They even fought for work place rights, including maternity leave and equal pay, and against other forms of discrimination against women. There are different groups and views of feminism and to list three it would be Liberal Feminism, pro-feminists, and anti-feminists.

Liberal feminism asserts the equality of men and women through political and legal reform. It is an individualistic form of feminism which focuses on the woman’s ability to show and maintain their equality through their own actions and choices. It uses the personal interactions between men and women as the place from which to transform society. According to liberal feminists, all women are capable of asserting the structure of society. Issues important to liberal feminists include some of the following: harassment, voting, education, “equal pay for equal work,” affordable childcare, affordable healthcare, and bringing to light the frequency of sexual and domestic violence against women all around the world.

Pro-feminism were the supporter is a member of the feminist movement. The term is most often used in reference to men who are actively supportive of feminism and of efforts to bring about gender equality. The activities of these men groups include anti-violence work with boys and young men in schools, offering sexual harassment, workshops in the workplace, running community education campaigns, and counseling male perpetrators of violence. These men also are involved in male’s health, activism against pornography including anti-pornography legislation, male studies, and the development of gender equity curricula in schools. This work is sometimes in collaboration with feminists and woman’s services, such as domestic violence and rape crisis centers.

Anti-feminists were opposite to feminism in some or all of its forms. Many writers have been labeled “anti-feminists” by the feminists. Some of these writers argue that in this way the term “anti-feminists” is used to silence academic debate about feminism. Other writers explore what they argue is feminist-inspired and their hate for males. One writer argues feminist hatred for males leads directly to mistrust of women by what she calls “establishment feminists” against (the majority of) women who love men. Most anti-feminists believe that “marriage rights” advocates criticize feminist, and take the view the marriage constitutes slavery for women, and that freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage.

There were three “waves” (being in the third wave today) where each one progressing to where different people, male and female, with multiple views are coming into play. This is all significant because the issue of woman’s rights to be equal to men with equal work is a civil rights problem that is still in play today since the third wave is still in play.

While women and men had heard the plea of Feminist from around the world, there is more activity for them. Feminism could be used to describe many different movements that have been aimed at establishing the equal rights and the legal protection of women. Feminism is the idea that women should have all the rights that would be equal to those of every man. Feminism involved a couple of theories and philosophies concerned with issues of gender equality for women and campaigns for women rights and interests.
