Animal testing is proven to be more common than not and it has come to my attention that most commonly used products do indeed test on animals. The following drug store beauty related companies, according to PETA, do test on animals: Avon Products, Bobbi Brown, Clairol, Clinique, Coach, Crest, Dove, Garnier (L’Oreal), Herbal Essences, M.A.C., Mary Kay, Maybelline, Neutrogena, Olay, Old Spice, Pantene, Revlon. These are just a few out of hundreds of companies that put various animals through intense torture, pain, and death to see if the products will be safe enough for us humans. A familiar phrase uttered by assorted people I have encountered is that there are no companies that do not test on animals. A little research can go a long way, and there are companies that do not harm any animals and some that are trying to stop testing.
It is great to see animal rights activists saying to stop animal testing but what can truly help is to stop buying the products from companies that harm animals. I have come to love a certain beauty cosmetics company known as Lush. Originating in England, there are now stores in America and all over the entire world selling products that are handmade. Lush’s products are organic and most of the containers are even made through recycled goods. Not only is everything from the company appealing through its components, the products are fun and relaxing. Differing merchandise for both genders, there is a variety of pleasant cosmetics. Starting with bath products, shower gel, and deep conditioning hair products, there is cologne and shaving cream. Lush is excellent to use after a long, stressful day of school and/or sports when you need to relax after doing five pages of Chemistry homework and reading two chapters for your English class.
If Lush can find an alternative to animal testing than I believe every company should at least attempt to do so. Lush uses human skin models and cell culture tests in replace of harming animals in the process of testing. To prove their anti-animal testing beliefs, they constructed a live mock demonstration of animal testing on a human. The “doctor” treated the performer that played the part of the animal, as a doctor would treat an animal in a lab for testing such as being choked, injected, and force fed. Towards the end, the “animal” was dead and thrown out on the street as if nothing had happened. Seeing the video of this and actually watching the demonstration was moving to great amounts of people, making any observer sign a petition to stop animal testing. Over the course of their 30+ years in existence, they have had an impact on the environment as a whole and helped show others how horrific and disgusting animal testing is.
