Insulin Degludec’s Use in Diabetes Treatment

Here in the valley and all around the world, Diabetes has become a widely common disease in society. Daily more and more people are being diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 Diabetes, and it can be scary. To know that your pancreas is no longer secreting or is holding back the hormone that helps regulate your blood glucose and other things? It can be pretty heavy on anyone. The good thing here is that there are treatments to help with what the body can no longer perform on its own. Insulin degludec (Tresiba) is one of the many that aid with maintaining the Diabetic body at homeostasis.

Insulin degludec, also known as Tresiba, is a form of insulin that is meant to keep the body of a Diabetic in homeostasis. This medication is a long-acting form of insulin. What this means is that it works slowly throughout the body in a slow process to ensure that the blood glucose of the patient taking it is. The Insulin Degludec has a working span of more than forty-two hours. What this means is that, for forty-two hours, the insulin will be flowing throughout the body, making sure that your blood sugar doesn’t spike and cause harm to the body. Apart from Tresiba, there is another form of Insulin Degludec. Ryzodeg is a coformulation that has a quicker effect and is considered a rapid-acting insulin as part. When used together, the Tresiba and Ryzodeg can help reduce the number of injections that the patient will be required to take daily.

Tresiba, apart from working for a long time, provides the same type of effects that an insulin glargine does. It provides the same type of glucose control in the patient. What this means is that it can maintain the blood glucose in the patient at a stable level. Tresiba can aid with reducing nocturnal hypoglycemia. In other words, with Tresiba, there is a reduced chance of a drop in blood glucose during the night time, when it is less likely that the body will recognize that the blood glucose level is dangerously low.

With Tresiba and such medications, it is recommended to be careful with it. Since it is a long-acting medication, one would like to avoid an overdose. The medication has a life span of 42 hours, meaning that the medication will still be in the body for around that time; if the medication is taken too early, it could cause serious damage. Not only that but it should be taken at the same time every day to avoid such events. Another recommendation is not to rely simply on long-lasting insulin. It may have similar effects to your regular insulin, but there are reasons both are prescribed. With long-lasting insulin, adjustments should be made in elderly patients and those with liver or kidney complications.
